Weaker Dollar Lets Gold Gain Ground

Precious metals are making headway today, following a second consecutive day of a weaker U.S. dollar. Gold is currently up 0.3 percent from yesterday's session.

Other precious metals are posting gains today, with palladium and platinum both rising 0.4 percent. Silver is also up, gaining 0.2 percent. Base metals are are mostly having a negative day, with only aluminum posting gains (up 0.1 percent). Nickel was by far the worst off today, losing a mighty 0.8 percent.

In international markets, equities are down somewhat, with the CSI 300 returning 0.15 percent, and the Nikkei losing 0.34 percent. The U.S. dollar is holding above its recent yearly low of 92.84 from August 3rd, but is nevertheless struggling at 93.33. This is the second consecutive trading day that the currency has lost ground.
